Starting a project, relationship, business or idea can be truly exciting, but as time goes on, we need to dig in further to be able to get going to the point many want, which is going all the way and finishing well.
We once knew a very nice gentleman who gets extremely excited about various things. He is extremely creative and continuously comes up with ideas. He has truly been gifted by God in generating ideas, he never runs short of them. You would expect that such a person would be extremely successful but that is not the case.
My husband, Pastor Eddie and I once had to sit with him to find out what exactly the reason for his consistent poverty was. He was not just full of ideas and giftings, he was also a hardworking person. While chatting with him, we realised that he tends to start and stop many things - ideas as well as relationships. After nursing a new idea, selling it to anyone that cares to listen, raising all the relevant support, he starts. Kick off is usually great with him and that gets celebrated.
The challenge however comes when he is in the middle of the project, and no one is asking any immediately pressing questions anymore. The moment that happens, he starts losing interest, looking for reasons to quit and starts nursing a newer idea. Before long, he will dump the project, relationship or work and start focusing fully on another.
Due to the number of years, I have known this fellow, I was able to call his attention to it in recent days. It is one thing to get excited and start, but the ultimate reward is in going all the way and completing the project, business, or even driving the relationships to a logical conclusion. No one pays for half done work, no matter how exciting the concept is.
It is interesting to note that Jesus, while He was here on earth, also alluded to the benefit of going all the way. In the book of Matthew 10:38 (the message version) He said:
'If you do not go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve me…’ Matthew 10:38 (MSG)
Going all the way brings reward. It reminds me of my days learning to play golf, when my instructor would tell me that a golf swing will only produce good results if I go all the way with my swing. If it is that important in the world of golf, I guess it is much more important in life!
Just as Jesus expected His disciples to go all the way with Him, through thick and thin, remember that we get rewarded in life by going all the way through thick and thin.
Whatsoever you are involved in right now; be it a project, a business, your work, a relationship or an idea, do not stop half way. Follow through and go all the way.
