There has been a lot of talks of Artificial Intelligence in recent days and there is even a conference on AI Safety in the United Kingdom this week. This reminded me of a couple of movies I have watched in the past and my thoughts about them.
The first one being the Terminator; this science fiction film directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwargenegger tells the story of a futuristic self-aware AI system that goes rogue and initiates a nuclear holocaust.
Followed by another one I watched called I-Robot directed by Alex Proyas, where Will Smith played the lead role. The movie plot was set in 2035 showing highly intelligent robots who were built and filled public spaces. Their main role was to keep human beings safe but as time went on, it seemed as if these robots developed a different agenda and started operating a system that informed them of the need to destroy humans rather than protect them.
I remember watching these movies and thinking, that’s so far-fetched. The producers knew a time would come when computers start doing more and more, for various reasons. All reasons seem logical and understandable. One of which I heard in recent talks on how AI will help massively with healthcare, productivity, speed, and security.
As good as these things are, as time progresses, history as well as movies, have proven that they can get used negatively. If that is the case, why then do we keep on such innovations that will end up hurting rather than helping? I guess it is because it seems right and the intentions are right, but the end is not always right.
The bible says:
‘There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.’ Proverbs 14:12
Learning from these movies and life generally, we need to learn to ask God more, seek God more and follow God's path more because that is the only guarantee that we will end up in the right place.
His word says:
‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you with my loving eyes on you.’ Psalm 32:8
Now that is a definite promise that I will advise you to hold on to. His ways guarantee life, peace, and a great end.
God is on your side!
